Two Doctoral Student positions open at CIE

Center for Internet Excellence (CIE) at the University of Oulu, Finland is hiring two doctoral students to work on energy-efficient network architectures and communication methods for low/ultra-low power devices. CIE is a research and innovation unit, which combines leading-edge Internet research, innovation processes and new infrastructures to provide a unique innovation environment.
Job Description
The research work will be conducted within a large strategic research project called The Naked Approach – Nordic perspective to gadget-free hyperconnected environments that develops alternative, human-centric ways of producing and consuming digital services.
As a Doctoral student you will carry out research work together with an enthusiastic research team, develop innovative technology demonstrators, publish your research results in scientific forums, attend doctoral courses and complete your doctoral thesis within 3-4 years.

To successfully occupy the position of a Doctoral student, you must possess an applicable Master of Science degree (or other applicable Master's degree) completed with very good / excellent grades. In addition, we appreciate
- strong knowledge on machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet-of-Things (IoT) networking
- knowledge on ubiquitous computing and energy-efficient communication technologies
- capability to develop prototype systems and applications
- capability to write scientific publications
- readiness for travelling and short-term research visits (e.g. USA)
- good team working skills
Depending on the stage of your doctoral studies and your personal performance, the salary will be set at levels 2–4 of the national salary system for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities (€ 2 400 - 3 588 gross).
